For the first time since 2007, the two most popular names in boxing are fighting within less than a month of each other. "Pac-Man" is now fresh off his rematch with Timothy Bradley, and we are only just weeks away from Mayweather's May 3 bout with underdog Marcos Maidana.
This is a great time of the year for boxing fans, and the hype behind Mayweather's upcoming fight should only increase after Pac-Man proved to the world he hasn't quite lost as many steps as some may have thought a year and a half ago.

It's not exactly difficult to see why some have labeled this as a lackluster matchup.
Mayweather has clinically picked apart both of his opponents since returning from a three-month jail sentence in 2012. The most recent of those two was against a young, hard-punching, undefeated Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who many believed would at least give the champ some problems.
The bout turned out to be a majority decision win for Mayweather, thanks to the incompetence of C.J. Ross, but in all reality, it was a blowout victory against a really solid opponent.
If "Money" continues to fight like that, there is no one on the planet capable of penetrating his lightning-quick defense. According to Oddschecker.com, he stands as a massive 1-12 favorite against Maidana.
Legend Mike Tyson isn't ruling out the chance of an upset, via Showtime Sports' Twitter feed, but that was just about as far as he was able to go:

Still, while it may seem lopsided on the surface, let's not overlook this match.
Fellow boxer Sergio Martinez recently told BoxingSocialist.com's Kevin Davis he believed Maidana could escape Vegas with the victory, although that may be a little compatriot bias from the Argentine:
Well it's a very tough fight for Mayweather who is great beyond his years, but I'm surprised he took such a tough matchup because Maidana is a machine, he won't stop coming and I think he can get the win for Argentina.
At the very least, Maidana is an aggressive attacker who won't back down from Mayweather. In his last fight, he knocked down Adrien Broner—Mayweather's protege who has a similar defensive style and had never been knocked down before that match—in the second and eighth rounds en route to a unanimous decision.
It was an extremely impressive performance, and while Mayweather is on another planet than Broner, the clash of styles certainly presents some intrigue.
Neverthless, while this fight offers some upside, Money has made it very clear in the past that his talent makes him practically untouchable. He can coast to wins by taking essentially zero risks inside of the ring, and while some may not like his style, it's what makes one of the best in the history of the sport. It's what makes the 37-year-old look like he's 23.
It doesn't matter who is in the opposite corner.
